Ikea reimagines the Privacy Policy

February 7, 2020

The Privacy Policy becomes a democratic process

Barbara Martin Coppola, Chief Digital Officer for Ingka Group explains the steps to embed data ethics into everything they do in a simple and transparent way.

Ikea designs a Privacy Policy that puts User Experience at the forefront. They make a commitment that their Privacy Policy should be:

  1. Easy to understand
  2. Put the customer in control of their data
  3. Provide the customer with a benefit for sharing the data

The customer co-creates their privacy controls as they navigate through the app. They decide how long their data is stored for. They decide how much personalisation they want in return for sharing their data. And its mostly done with graphics and animations.

If this is the future of Privacy Policies and data sharing, I'm excited!
